This Cookie Policy explains how Localee Limited ("Localee", "we", "us") uses cookies, local storage, and similar technologies on the Localee platform. It sits alongside our Privacy Policy and our Terms of Service.
We comply with the European Communities (Electronic Communications Networks and Services) (Privacy and Electronic Communications) Regulations 2011 (S.I. 336/2011, "ePrivacy Regulations") and the Data Protection Commission's April 2020 guidance on cookies and similar technologies.
Summary
Localee sets only a small number of strictly-necessary first-party items: your sign-in token, session record, and a small set of UI preferences in localStorage, one UI-preference cookie (sidebar:state), and — during our pre-launch early-access phase only — one access cookie (site_unlocked). Our payment partner Stripe sets two strictly-necessary cookies on pages that handle payments. We do not use any analytics, advertising, or tracking cookies at launch.
If we change that, we will update this policy and ask for your consent before placing any optional cookie or tracker on your device.
1. What this policy covers
Irish ePrivacy law applies to any information stored on or read from your device, not just cookies. That includes:
- Cookies — small text files set by a web server and read on later visits.
- Local storage (
localStorageandsessionStorage) — browser-side storage we use to keep your session active. - SDK identifiers — values our mobile apps may read about your device, such as a push-notification token.
For brevity, we use the word "cookies" in this policy to cover all of the above unless context makes the difference clear.
2. What Localee uses on the public platform
2.1 First-party storage (strictly necessary)
When you sign in, your browser stores a short-lived authentication token (issued by Firebase Auth, our identity provider) in localStorage. This is how we know it's you on subsequent requests without asking you to sign in again. We also store a small set of UI preferences — including one first-party cookie, sidebar:state — and a session record used to protect your account. These items are shared only with the subprocessors listed in our Privacy Policy (for example, the authentication token is issued and validated by Firebase).

2.2 Third-party cookies set by Stripe (strictly necessary)
We use Stripe as our payment processor. Whenever you reach a page that handles a payment — checkout, payment-method update, or business payout setup — Stripe loads its JavaScript and sets two cookies on your device for fraud prevention. These are required to process card payments and we cannot disable them while continuing to operate the platform.

2.3 What we do not use
Localee does not use any of the following on the public platform:
- Analytics cookies — no Google Analytics, no Plausible, no PostHog, no Mixpanel, no Hotjar, no session-replay tools (FullStory and similar).
- Advertising or retargeting cookies — no Meta Pixel, no Google Ads, no LinkedIn Insight, no other ad-network integrations.
- Social-media share trackers.
- Cross-site or cross-app tracking identifiers.
We do not sell cookie or browser data, ever.
Our error-monitoring subprocessor, Sentry, does not use cookies or local storage either; it transmits diagnostic information directly when an error occurs (see Privacy Policy §5.1).
If we introduce any optional tracking in future, this policy will be updated, a consent banner will re-prompt you, and we will not load the relevant script until you give explicit permission.
3. Our internal admin tools
For completeness: the internal admin tools used by Localee staff use a session cookie with a 4-hour absolute expiry and a 1-hour idle timeout. This is not visible to the public and is mentioned here only for transparency.
4. Our consent model
ePrivacy law in Ireland distinguishes between strictly necessary technologies, which can be used without consent, and everything else, which requires consent. Today, everything we use falls into the strictly-necessary category. That means:
- We don't run a granular cookie banner because there is nothing optional to consent to.
- This policy is linked from the footer of every page instead.
- If you would prefer Localee not to store anything on your device, you can clear your browser's storage and stop using the platform — but you will not be able to sign in or make payments.
If we later add anything optional (analytics, marketing), we will switch to a granular opt-in banner with separate toggles for each category, and we will not place any optional technology on your device until you've consented.
5. Managing storage on your device
You can clear your browser's cookies and localStorage at any time through your browser's settings. Note that this will sign you out and clear your saved preferences.

On mobile, you can also reset advertising identifiers and limit cross-app tracking via your device's privacy settings. Localee does not use cross-app advertising identifiers.
6. Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control
Most browsers offer signals such as Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control. We default to placing only strictly necessary technologies on your device regardless, so these signals do not currently change our behaviour. If we add optional categories in future, we will honour DNT and GPC signals as a withdrawal of consent.
7. Your rights
You have the rights set out in §8 of our Privacy Policy over any personal data derived from cookies or local storage. Contact privacy@localee.ie to exercise them.
You can also lodge a complaint with the Data Protection Commission of Ireland (https://www.dataprotection.ie) if you believe our use of cookies or similar technologies breaches Irish or EU law.
8. Changes to this policy
We will update this policy whenever we change what we store on your device — including adding a new third-party provider, introducing a new cookie category, or changing retention periods.
- Non-material changes (typographical, formatting, clarification) take effect on publication.
- Material changes (any new optional category, any new third-party provider, any change to retention) take effect 14 days after notice in-app and trigger a fresh consent prompt.
